No one likes to be marginalized- that is for sure. And minorities are marginalized, most of the time. We members of minorities rightfully decry it, and under liberal government we can make some temporary progress. But marginalization is a fact of life and we all do it to each other- whenever we don’t really practice your recommendation- that everyone be included fully. That is so difficult- for many of us. From earliest childhood we may have learned to feel that we are competing with others for space and resources to keep what we need or like, and we can be very blind to our own sense of being more normal, good, valuable, etc than another.

It took me a very long time to finally understood that politically correct speech was valuable and beneficial, that it wasn’t coddling undeserving minorities, it was neutral, inclusive, non-marginalizing speech. It was a path for me to break down my prejudices, and the more we use it, the more we will help move our society towards full incorporation of all its members.
