I believe this is because, from a female’s point of view, being accepted as a woman requires attention to presentation in order to conform. Ironically, from a male’s point of view, being female is enough to qualify as a desirable woman for sexual attention and reproduction.

Both points of view are the result of gender training, but the logic of the training is founded IMHO in the sociobiology of sex- i.e. females are trying to find ways to compete with other females for males who, in the absence of differences in presentation, will not be particular.

The face, being the most representative, detailed, and visible part of us in all weather, gets the focus among females for altering presentation. Breasts are in close second place, as implied maternal capacity.

This underlying sociobiology is a huge drag on acceptance for trans women. Observers are contending with their longstanding pattern recognition process, and have no particular reason to reject it in favor of an expanded classification of ‘woman’, unless they are still young children with limited training, or they have a personal stake in being tolerant.

That said, I think we all learn what women are from what we observe, and any woman who is sure of herself eventually is accepted.
